A long-awaited visit

A couple of weeks ago I went to the Portland Museum of Art, in Portland, Maine.

I got to see this sculpture for the first time in decades, and it was just as beautiful as I’d remembered. I have this memory of sitting on the ground looking up at it as the guide told me and my classmates things to notice. I couldn’t remember any of the details mentioned but I definitely remembered the carved netting, shells, and just the overall pose of the figure. So beautiful, no?!

I had been thinking a lot about this piece, and all of the art teachers I’ve had through the years, such a gift. They helped give shy little me an outlet of expression, and introduced me to my favorite artists, art techniques, etc…

So grateful.
